The first of its kind, this book is a reference resource for triangle research. It serves to document and index nearly a thousand images of triangle iconography through the 19th Century. The index is organized into thirteen categories by medium, listed alphabetically. The title of each category reflects its medium (paintings, stained glass, tapestries, etc.). Within each category, iconographic items are listed alphabetically by title.
The goal of the index is to document the iconography and to briefly describe the triangle and any unique qualities it may have. The purpose therefore is to provide enough information for the reader to locate the iconography, identify it, and then pursue further research. Indeed, each item listed is worthy of individual study, and could be a research project in and of itself.
It is my hope that this index will provide a starting place for further studies in iconology, organology, performance practice, and various topics of music in art.
